Another Camping Post

So, we decided to give our family camping skills another try with a weekend at Lake Hemet. We didn't get on the road until 7:30 because Chris had an awful week and couldn't get off work early that day. We got to the campground around 8:45 and busted a move setting up our little site.

Our first morning waking up there, my boy finally got up the nerves to yank out his dangling by a thread tooth! We weren't sure if the tooth fairy would be able to find him way out in Lake Hemet, but she sure did... Jed said she must have GPS.

I love this little toothless boy.

We camped with my parents, my Aunt and Uncle, and my cousin and her family. We had a pretty good time, despite some unwanted family drama. My other cousin and his wife and three girls came out on Saturday for the day and we took the kids to this little pond that they can swim in and catch baby frogs. The kids had a blast. It kind of grossed me out, but the kids had so much fun. I couldn't let my OCD motherness steal from their good time.

This is Joni with her "best friend" on the trip, Skylar. She is a friend of my cousin's whose family also came along on the trip. This girl was obsessed with Joni. She was actually quite helpful and is counting down the days until my cousin's daughter's birthday party when they can be reunited again.

Sunday was pretty eventful as well. Chris was helping my Uncle get his Tahoe back up and running so they could head home. Meanwhile, a dog busted out of its trailer and attacked my cousin's tiny fluffy white dog. It looked like a pitbull and there was lots of screaming. My heroic husband jumped right in and was able to lift the dog up off of my cousin's dog and save the day. Such a brave man, that Mr. Latham.

I think that may have been the last hoo-rah for our little pop up trailer for the year.. We will be tent camping on the beach in September for a week and I can't stinkin' wait.

7 Months

Joni turns 7 months old on the 1st. I figured I'd document the new things she's been doing while they're fresh in my mind.

*She's been saying "DA-DA" for a couple months now. Chris loves it.
*We've started Baby Led Weaning with her and have started giving her a few different foods. Her favorites are sweet potatoes and avocado. She loves frozen mango in her mesh feeder thingy.
*She's waking up 1-2x a night now which I'm fine with. She was sleeping 12-13 hours straight for the from like 2-4 months old and I ruined her when she caught a cold by nursing her everytime I heard her make a peep. She kinda liked that, I guess.
*She's now CRAWLING, sitting up, and just this week she started standing while holding onto her crib or baby gate. So not ready for this mobile on-the-move stage. Waaaah.
*Her brothers make her laugh all the time. Chris and I were just talking today about how she's rarely laughed for us. Just smiles all the time. She just loves those big brothers of hers.
*She's almost outgrown 9 month clothing. 12 months are fitting her quite perfectly these days.
*She weighed 19lb 1oz on Wednesday at the chiropractor.
*She has TWO teeth that popped through towards the end of July.
*She always has her tongue out. My Mom and I call her "Lizzy" (short for Lizard. lol.)
*She loves to scream. It's such a cute girly scream too.
*She's starting to do the cheesy squishy face smile which is my absolute FAVE.
*She choked on a leaf a couple weeks ago. It's like a seven month "thing" for my kids I guess.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I just love everything about her. She fills all of our hearts with so much joy.

My Proudest/Scariest Moment. Ever.

So tonight Chris was going on a "brother date" with his brother, Sam, to see the new Wolverine movie. The kids and I decided to go swim at Grandma's and make some burgers to pass the time. We were all out of the pool getting cleaned up to eat dinner. I was inside changing the baby while Grandpa and Grandma were outside with the boys and grilling the burgers. There was like one minute where both of them came inside to the kitchen and we heard a little splash and Jed yell, "MOM!" We all bolted outside and see Jed swimming with his little brother under one arm bringing him to the side of the pool. Turns out Cruz had been bending over the side of the pool checking out the water that was pouring into the pool (Grandpa was filling it up some more) and he fell right in. Jed's reaction was so textbook: Yelled for me then dove right in without even thinking twice. He looked like a little lifeguard how he was bringing Cruz out of the pool. I couldn't help but tearing up seeing the love Jed had for Cruz. He kept saying, "I thought he was gunna die. I was so scared." Goodness. Gracious. His adrenaline was pumpin for a good hour after the incident and kept telling the story over and reenacting how he jumped in and saved his baby brother.

This morning we had a family bible study and were reading the story of Cain and Abel. Jed and Cruz were so shocked that Cain actually murdered his little brother and we came up with some ways they could deal with their anger when they get really mad at each other. I thought it was so ironic that this incident happened the same day they learned about that story. Jed had to make a choice in that instance to love and protect his brother and I couldn't be more proud of the decision he made. These boys can fight like no one's business, but it's good to know at the end of the day they love each other and will always have the other's back. My Mama heart is so full.
